Our Mission

COCOA seeks to amplify melanated voices through joy, art, and literature in the Walla Walla  Valley. We see our work as being that of building awareness in our community of the diversity that already  exists here and the beauty and joy within this reality. We strive to usher our valley to a place that welcomes  diversity as part of the intricate and beautiful design of Southeast Washington.

Our organization hosts events, little libraries, and workshops for the public. In our rural community, that's about 35,000 people that can access our reach; this includes people in all demographic areas. We seek to include and amplify.

COCOA hosts events (like Juneteenth), coordinates book giveaways, created and maintains the diverse little libraries (tiny, local book boxes with free lending libraries of books by  BIPOC authors about BIPOC characters), and puts on educational and inspirational workshops.

Our last Juneteenth event served 300-400 people with FREE food,  beverages, music, activities, and more for families throughout the valley. We made it free to ensure that there were no barriers to come. Our book giveaway served 100+ BIPOC families as well.
